Agartala: A Tripura court sentenced a couple to five years of rigorous imprisonment on Monday, August 10. The Additional Sessions Judge in Udaipur convicted Sahid Miah and Parbin Bibi for their roles in a heroin smuggling operation. The case stemmed from Kakraban Police Station Case number 101 of 2023.

Police raided the couple's residence in Hadra Golmura on December 31, 2023. They found 434 vials containing 8 grams of heroin. Officials arrested Parbin Bibi on-site. Investigations linked both suspects to the illegal drug trade. The judge ruled they violated sections 21(b) and 25 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

The court fined each convict 20,000 rupees for the heroin possession charge. Failure to pay triggers three additional months of hard labor. They face another 10,000 rupee fine for the second charge. The sentences run at the same time. Sub-Inspector Ashit Chandra Das led the investigation. During the proceedings, the court heard how the pair admitted to their actions. Officials noted the wife "allegedly disclosed that she and her husband were involved in the illegal sale of heroin."
