Agartala: An Additional Sessions Judge in Udaipur sentenced Sadhan Hari Jamatia to life in prison this Friday. The verdict stems from a 2021 land dispute that turned violent. Jamatia used a sharp dao to attack 35-year-old Marendra Reang.

The assault happened September 4, 2021, at 4:30 pm in Makamjoy Para. Reang suffered a deep, bleeding wound to his neck. He required urgent hospital treatment. Police from Birganj Station filed a chargesheet on January 31, 2022. Inspector Debananda Reang handled the probe.

Jamatia, son of Kailash Hari Jamatia from Khedarnal Jamatia Para, faced charges under Sections 307 and 326 of the Indian Penal Code. The court handed down a life sentence plus a 5,000 rupee fine for the Section 307 charge. If he fails to pay, he adds five months to his time. He also received seven years for the Section 326 charge with a 3,000 rupee fine. That failure carries a three-month penalty. The judge ordered the sentences to run concurrently.

The legal file identifies the case as ST(T-1) 26/2022. It follows Birganj Police Station Case No. 50/2021. The prosecution proved the attack followed a disagreement over a rubber plantation. The court convicted Jamatia after examining the evidence. This ruling brings an end to the case, stating, "The court awarded rigorous imprisonment for life and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 under Section 307."
