Agartala: Agartala’s Traffic Department launched a blitz against outstation e-autos entering the city without proper permits. The crackdown targets vehicles from Mohanpur, Amtali, and surrounding regions that have been plying city streets freely. Traffic DSP Pranab Das led the Tuesday operation near the North Gate.
New rules restrict outstation access. Operators must stick to designated routes or face heavy fines. The city now bars general entry for these vehicles. They can only enter to transport students, patients, or airport passengers, provided they mount a clear display board to signal their purpose.
Authorities blamed the unauthorized vehicles for blocking busy roads. The haphazard parking created major headaches for pedestrians and drivers alike. DSP Pranab Das confirmed the enforcement is not a one-time event. "The department has pledged continuous monitoring and penalties to keep traffic movement smooth and safe."
The agency warned that the sweep reaches beyond e-autos. Officials will also target bikes and other vehicles clogging roads with illegal parking. Commuters remain split on the new measures. The Traffic Department insists the goal is to balance mobility with necessary regulation.
