Agartala: Agartala police arrested two men after an app-based Uber auto-rickshaw faced obstruction at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport on September 30. The Tripura Transport Department confirmed the arrests on October 1. Airport police took the suspects into custody and continue to hold them for questioning. Investigators plan to pursue further legal action as the case progresses.

A joint team from the Police and Transport departments visited the site to verify what happened. Authorities found that passengers were blocked from using the authorized service. Officials made the department's position clear: "The department said no individual, association or transport group has the right to interfere with lawful transport services or stop passengers from choosing their preferred mode of travel."

The state government recently expanded its transport options. They launched the Uber auto service on September 3 with the Transport Minister in attendance. The government now plans to suspend the registration and driving license of the auto driver involved in the blockade, pending due process. Officials are monitoring the terminal to stop future harassment. They refuse to allow any private groups to hold a monopoly on passenger transport.
