Agartala: Agartala police caught a suspect involved in a daylight robbery. Officers detained the man in the Radhanagar area on Sunday. They also impounded the motorcycle spotted in surveillance footage. The case stems from a necklace snatching that hit the Bankumari neighborhood on September 11.
Gita Das was out for a morning walk with a neighbor when two helmeted riders attacked her. The pair snatched her jewelry in broad daylight. Das filed an FIR at the East Agartala police station two hours after the crime. Police combed through local CCTV to track the suspects. The video shows two men on a bike targeting the elderly woman.
East Agartala officer-in-charge Krishnadhan Sarkar confirmed the arrest and the status of the investigation. "The incident occurred on September 11 last when the victim woman identified as Gita Das along with one of her neighbours went out for morning walk. We received the complaint, two hours after the incident. Accordingly, we started the investigation and detained one person. The video evidence captured by cameras installed in the area showed a motorcycle with two helmet wearing riders. The two wheeler used in the incident has been impounded," said Sarkar.
Detectives are now grilling the detainee. They want to identify the accomplice who rode the bike. Officers are still checking leads to close the case.
