Agartala: Tensions boiled over in Ashabari on Monday morning. A clash between Border Security Force members and local residents left at least three troops and several villagers injured. The chaos started at 10 am near the Ashabari Gram Panchayat. BSF personnel detained Hefzur Rahman, the son of Shahajan Miah, while he cleared vegetation near Natun Bazar. Locals claim the troops beat Rahman with a lathi, leaving him with a fractured leg.

Outraged, villagers blocked the Ashabari-Rahimpur road. They demanded accountability. A BSF 49th Battalion vehicle, registration TR-01-AL-1051, drove into the blockade while moving from Rahimpur toward Boxanagar. Inside were Company Commander Rohit, driver Sunil Kumar, and a third officer named Manjit. Protesters armed with sticks and bamboo swarmed the car. They attacked the occupants and vandalized the vehicle.

Police from the Kalamchoura station and teams from the Ashabari Border Outpost arrived to stop the fighting. The injured BSF personnel went to Boxanagar Hospital first. Doctors later referred them to Hapania Hospital and Tripura Medical College for further care. Both sides filed complaints at the Kalamchoura police station. Senior BSF officials visited the site to assess the damage. Investigations are ongoing. Assistant Commandant Rohit Kumar told the press, "The circumstances leading to the attack remain unclear." Peace has since returned to the area.
