Agartala: Tripura Police, the BSF, and Tripura State Rifles intercepted a massive drug shipment late Sunday. The joint team raided a field in Matinagar Uttar Para, located in the Sonamura subdivision of Sepahijala district, following a confidential tip. They found 777.6 kilograms of dry ganja stashed in 29 plastic drums.
The haul is worth Rs 15.05 crore. The narcotics were left abandoned at the site. Sonamura police station officer-in-charge Tapas Das confirmed the operation, stating, "the seizure was made after the team received confidential information about the presence of the narcotics in the area."
The operation involved the Sonamura Police Station, the 81st Battalion of the BSF, and the 11th Battalion of the TSR. Investigators are now scrambling to find the owners of the stash. They want to know where the shipment was headed. Sepahijala sits right on the Bangladesh border. The region remains a hotbed for smuggling concerns.
