Agartala: Police in Khowai district caught two men from Bihar with 194 bottles of banned Eskuf cough syrup. The haul carries a street value of roughly Rs 1 lakh. Officers from Mungiakami Police Station stopped the duo on September 8 at Naikia Kami Para during a routine vehicle check.
The suspects acted nervous. Officers moved in. They searched three bags the men carried and found the contraband. Officer-in-Charge Raju Baidya confirmed the discovery. "During the search, we recovered 194 bottles of banned Eskuf cough syrup from three bags carried by the two persons," Baidya said.
The men arrived in Tripura by train. They exited at Mungiakami railway station before heading toward the spot where police intercepted them. Authorities registered a case against the pair. They face a court appearance on September 8. Investigators are now tracking the source of the syrup and hunting for other people linked to the smuggling operation.
