Agartala: A Haryana-registered truck carrying nearly 90,000 bottles of Phensedyl cough syrup disappeared after local youths intercepted the vehicle near the Bishalgarh bypass. The incident sparked a massive internal probe within the Tripura Police. Allegations suggest a massive payoff occurred. Sources claim a Rs 1 crore deal secured the truck's release.

Gomati district SP Anirban Das confirmed that the driver and his helper were held briefly at the Kakraban police station before being set free. Witnesses allege the Phensedyl was moved into three smaller vehicles near the Tulumura outpost in the early hours. The smugglers left behind sacks of flour to hide the transfer.

Intelligence branch officials learned of the operation after locals reported suspicious activity near the outpost. The Inspector General of Police for Law and Order conducted an unannounced site inspection on Saturday to review the evidence. The IG arrived with a team of senior officers to walk the bypass.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the bribe or the illicit transfer of the syrup. The police department maintains that the ongoing internal inquiry will settle the facts. Officials stated, "The inquiry will decide the next course of action." Public pressure continues to mount as the state grapples with the fallout of the potential police complicity.
