Guwahati: The Barak Democratic Front is demanding that Assam residents register their true mother tongue during the new nationwide Census. Enumerators are hitting the streets soon to collect vital demographic data. The BDF insists people must ignore pressure from political groups or outside organizations to misidentify their heritage.

Jaideep Bhattacharjee, the BDF Media Cell Convenor, backed a similar call from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He noted that the state builds its future through these figures. "Government policies and future short-term as well as long-term development plans are formulated on the basis of Census data," Bhattacharjee said. This data shapes everything from language policy to political representation.

Identity is at stake. The BDF leader warned that lying about one's primary language hurts future generations. He reminded the public that the Census Act of 1948 makes it a crime to induce others into providing false information. Watch the enumerators closely. Ensure they write down exactly what you say, including all secondary languages you speak.

"Besides declaring one's genuine mother tongue, it is equally important for citizens to provide truthful information regarding all other languages they know," he added. Do not tolerate manipulation. If you spot errors or deliberate distortion, seek legal help immediately.
