Guwahati: Assam state officials gathered on August 7 to overhaul security and logistics for the upcoming Independence Day. The chief secretary and director general of police chaired the session, linking up with district commissioners and police superintendents via video call. They met to "assess preparedness for the forthcoming Independence Day celebrations across the state."

Tight security dominated the agenda. Officials ordered anti-sabotage sweeps, constant surveillance of key sites, and hardened checking protocols. Agencies must share intelligence and sanitize parade routes to keep events safe. Everything must run like clockwork.

The government wants events to proceed with, "dignity, discipline and patriotic spirit befitting the occasion." District leaders must now finish venue prep, traffic plans, and medical contingency work ahead of schedule. They also need to host local coordination committee meetings to ensure all agencies stay on the same page.

Maintenance crews are clearing out venues with intensive sanitation drives. This ensures the "safe, secure and seamless conduct of all programmes."
