Guwahati: Thieves swiped a national flag and its bamboo pole from a medical sub-centre in Laxmi Bazar Narikhali village. The incident hit the Sribhumi district on Saturday. Workers hoisted the flag at 7:30 am near the Girish Ganj watchpost. Thirty minutes later, the flag and pole were gone. Local residents raised the alarm after finding the area empty.
Police have filed an FIR following a report from the divisional office. Village Defence Party secretary Parimal Chandra confirmed a second theft occurred at a local post office on the same day. He noted the recurring pattern of these crimes. "The incidents have caused concern among residents," Chandra said. Locals now demand swift arrests and tougher security measures from the civil administration.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the disappearances. The Village Defence Party is pushing for increased patrols to stop future thefts. Police continue to search for the suspects involved in the two separate cases reported during the holiday.

The medical sub-centre sits near an Ayushman Arogya Mandir. Residents pointed out that these thefts are not isolated events but part of a recurring local trend.
Separately, police in Nagaon district launched a probe after a national flag remained flying overnight at Sonaribali Balika Primary School in Samaguri. Officers arrived on August 16 to lower and seize the flag, as leaving it up past sunset violates official display protocols.
