Guwahati: Thieves targeted the historic Bageshwari Temple in Bongaigaon, clearing out jewelry, cash, and a rare British-era crown. The culprits hit the Lower Assam site overnight. They cut the CCTV system before breaking inside. Temple officials estimate the total loss at 7 to 8 lakh rupees.
Police and administrative teams arrived to start their investigation as locals voiced anger over the breach. Devotees want immediate arrests. Authorities are currently searching for the perpetrators. One official noted, "The temple authorities have urged the police and administration to identify and arrest those involved in the theft at the earliest."
