Jorhat Man Accused of Stealing 50 Lakh in Family Heist

Guwahati: Yash Dhanuka allegedly cleaned out his family home in Jorhat while his parents were away. He walked away with cash and gold jewelry worth 50 lakh. The theft surfaced once his parents returned to find their locker empty. His father filed an FIR at Jorhat Police Station on August 24.

Police took Yash into custody, and he now sits in judicial custody after a court appearance. He points the finger at others. He claims Jitendra Somani and Rohit Prasad pushed him into the heist and guided him through the steps. A locksmith allegedly helped them crack the safe. Yash told reporters, "I am really sorry. Jitu Somani manipulated me."

The cash went fast. Yash allegedly burned through 5 lakh to impress a friend, Pubali Dutta. He claims he bought her an iPhone worth 1.5 lakh and handed over bundles of cash. Investigators are now picking apart these claims. They are also looking into the roles of Somani, who works as a news portal reporter, and Prasad, who allegedly helped pawn the stolen gold.

The trail gets complicated. Somani traveled to Ahmedabad on August 4 while Yash stayed in Assam. Police continue to track the missing loot and the specific roles of all four suspects named in the FIR.
