Guwahati: Thieves broke into a house on Sridhar Lane in Silchar on Tuesday, August 18. They made off with gold jewellery and cash totaling several lakhs of rupees. The family of Dibakar Bhattacharyya discovered the crime upon returning home that night. They found the main door forced open and belongings strewn across the floor.
The burglars gained entry by smashing the front door before ransacking a cupboard. Neighbours alerted the National Highway Outpost as soon as the scale of the theft became clear. Officers arrived at the Satsang Ashram Road area to inspect the scene. Police registered a formal case and started a hunt for the perpetrators.
The family wants justice. They demanded that investigators "identify and arrest those involved, recover the stolen valuables and take strict action against the accused." Authorities are currently reviewing evidence to track down the suspects.
