Guwahati: Police arrested four people in Jorhat for the brutal murder of 31-year-old Anil Rajgarh. The victim lived at Greenview Tea Estate in Mariani. He vanished on September 7. His family reported him missing to the Mariani Police Station. Workers later found his decomposed body near the Bhogdoi river.

Anil allegedly kept in contact with Anima Karmakar for months. Police claim Anima lured him to a tea garden on September 7. Kapil Karmakar, Sanjit Karmakar, and Mahesh Rajgarh waited in the dark. Investigators say Anima used a blade to cut his throat. The men then finished the job with a machete.

The crew shoved the body into a sack. They hauled it to the riverbank and buried it. Mariani SDPO Trinayan Chamuah noted the motive stemmed from a suspected affair. The suspects allegedly confessed to the killing. Officers recovered the machete from the suspects' house.

The court granted police a three-day remand for all four suspects. They face charges of murder, criminal conspiracy, and destroying evidence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. "Anil had allegedly been in regular contact with Anima for several months," Chamuah said. Officials performed a postmortem on the remains as the investigation drags on.
