Guwahati: The Sadou Asom Karmachari Parishad marked Shaheed Divas on November 1 at its Guwahati headquarters. The group honored Dilip Chakraborty, a Secretariat worker killed during the Assam Movement. He died on November 1, 1980, after police violence broke out. Members hoisted the council flag and lit earthen lamps. They placed flowers at his portrait and sang Diha Naam.
The event triggered a leadership overhaul. The council dissolved its old executive body. It formed a new 199-member committee to steer the organization. Kumud Kumar Kotoky assumed the role of president. Pranab Bhuyan stepped in as the general secretary. The swearing-in took place at Karmachari Bhavan.
Dignitaries attended the ceremony. Former bureaucrat Engineer Pradyut Kumar Choudhury watched the proceedings alongside past office-bearers. Kotoky addressed the crowd. He vowed to fight for the rights of government staff. "Chakraborty's sacrifice for the rights and self-respect of the employees' community would continue to inspire the organisation," Kotoky said.
The new team has a clear target. Bhuyan stated the council will challenge the National Pension System immediately. The group remains focused on member welfare. They will press the state government on outstanding employee issues.
