Guwahati: Cachar Police shut down an illegal chemical plant operating inside a private home in the Sirukandi area of Silchar. Officers raided the house under the Ramnagar jurisdiction after receiving reports that someone was churning out cleaning supplies without government approval.

The raid netted toilet cleaners, bathroom cleaners, and bleaching powder valued at over Rs 50 lakh. The bust occurred under the supervision of Cachar Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das and Tarapur Police Outpost in-charge Shubhajit Dutta.

Police arrested Abdul Kuddus Chowdhury at the scene. They allege Chowdhury produced and sold these goods from his own residence for a long time without proper permits. The Tarapur Police Station has registered a case and launched a probe into the operation.

Investigators are now hunting for the distribution network and looking for potential accomplices. "An investigation is underway to establish the circumstances under which the manufacturing unit was operating, identify the distribution network for the products and determine whether other individuals were involved," police sources stated. Local residents remain worried about the safety risks posed by the illicit factory.
