Imphal: Frontal organizations in Senapati have launched a push for an independent inquiry into the death of two missing Kuki individuals. Leaders met at the Naga People’s Organisation office on Sunday to demand answers. They allege major procedural failures by local authorities during the recovery of the remains on SP Road.
NPO president Kuba Peter led the charge. He slammed the lack of transparency surrounding the incident. The groups want to know if officials followed the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. Specifically, they are questioning if an executive magistrate was notified under Section 194. They also want proof that local residents witnessed the official inquest.
Timeline discrepancies fuel the distrust. State press reports claimed bodies were found at 5:30 am Saturday. Police reports put the recovery on Sunday morning. Peter challenged the conflicting stories during the press conference. He highlighted the shaky record of Additional SP Thangkhochon Haokip in sensitive communal cases. The NPO wants to know if the operation was staged to scapegoat the local Naga population.
“What role did he play in this operation? Was the recovery conducted strictly according to law, or was there any attempt to stage-manage the circumstances to shift responsibility and victimise the people of Senapati in particular and the Nagas in general?” Peter asked. The organizations insist that only an impartial investigation can prevent further communal unrest and uncover the truth.
