Imphal: Members of the Senapati District Women’s Association (SDWA) rescued a 54-year-old Kuki civilian on July 15 after Naga youth volunteers detained him in Senapati Bazaar. Ngamsei Chongloi of Taphou Kuki village had traveled to the market with a Naga friend to buy fish when the group intercepted and held them. Tensions remain high throughout Manipur.

SDWA leaders intervened immediately upon hearing the report. They secured Chongloi’s release from the volunteers and drove him directly to the residence of the Taphou village chief. The rescue prevented the situation from spiraling into violence.

Community leaders held a formal handover ceremony at the chief’s house. Taphou village secretary expressed gratitude for the prompt help. The secretary also urged the SDWA to consider the plight of youths who use intoxicants and ignore orders to stay home. Local authorities have repeatedly warned residents to avoid the bazaar area while the unrest continues.

The SDWA representatives issued a sharp warning to the public. They told residents not to loiter while the region remains unstable. The Taphou Kuki Village Women’s Association chairperson led a benediction prayer to end the meeting. She credited the SDWA with “bringing a change in the society.”
