Agartala: Tripura collected over 52 crore rupees in traffic fines during the past three financial years. Chief Minister and Home Minister Dr. Manik Saha shared these figures with the Legislative Assembly on Monday. Revenue grew annually: 16.23 crore rupees in 2023-24, 17.79 crore in 2024-25, and 18.02 crore in 2025-26. The state is cracking down hard.
Dr. Saha detailed specific violations in response to inquiries from MLAs Nayan Sarkar and Shailendra Chandra Nath. In 2025-26, drunk driving saw 1,276 reports netting 12.90 lakh rupees. Overloading brought in 1.29 crore rupees from 4,547 reports, while 2,700 speeding cases added 1.15 crore rupees. Other violations dominated the numbers with 63,592 reports and 41,637 e-challans, pulling in 16.29 crore rupees.
Enforcement remains active in 2026-27. As of July 31, officials collected 4.86 lakh rupees for drunk driving, 44.08 lakh for overloading, and 31.18 lakh for speeding. Including 23,965 reports and 10,010 e-challans for other offenses, the state added another 5.18 crore rupees to the coffers. Between 2025-26 and July 2026, total collections reached 24.85 crore rupees.
Dr. Saha highlighted the dual-track strategy of using prosecution reports and the e-challan system. He stated, "Enforcement is being carried out through both traditional prosecution reports and the e-challan system, ensuring accountability and compliance." Officials say strict monitoring and safety campaigns will continue to target road discipline.
