Imphal: Manipur will get a major medical overhaul. Union Health Minister JP Nadda greenlit plans to upgrade RIMS Imphal to an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) during an August 31 meeting in New Delhi with Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh. The move aims to boost healthcare capacity across the state.
Nadda also signed off on a new medical college for the Senapati district. This adds to the existing medical infrastructure. Officials expect these projects to broaden access to medical education, especially for those living outside Imphal.
The project is moving fast. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will lay the foundation stone for the Senapati medical college during his visit to Manipur in the first week of October. According to officials, "The two developments are expected to expand medical education and healthcare capacity in the state, particularly outside Imphal."
