Imphal: The Kwakta Truck Owners Association wants immediate action. They are demanding police arrest the arsonists who torched a truck near Upokpi and Toupokpi at 6:30 pm yesterday. Bishnupur Police Station is investigating the attack.
Association president B.M. Azad Khan addressed a press conference today at Kwakta Pangalkhaida. He laid down a hard deadline for investigators. "The association urged the authorities to take immediate steps to ensure the safety of truck drivers and prevent further attacks on transport vehicles," he stated. Khan warned that if officials fail to apprehend the culprits within five days, drivers and unions across Manipur will halt all transport services and launch protests.
The incident began on the road. Truck driver Md. Najir Rahaman, who lives in Terakhongsangbi Laithel, was hauling cargo from Imphal. Unknown people flagged him down at Oinam. The group argued, but the driver eventually drove away. The trouble started again before he hit Ningthoukhong. Attackers forced the crew out of the trucks and lit one vehicle on fire.
The association also condemned similar violence reported at Ngahang Sangaiyumpham and Khangabok. They offered their support to the families affected by those attacks.
