Imphal: Unidentified gunmen ambushed two men near P. Molding village this morning. The shooters opened fire at 8 a.m. within a dense forest situated 13 kilometres from the Leimakhong Police Station in the Kangpokpi district. One man died instantly. The victim was identified as 45-year-old Paolen Khongsai of P. Molding village.
His companion, Laldenga, managed to run for his life. Laldenga escaped the scene without suffering any physical injuries. The pair had been traveling toward the wooded region between P. Molding and Molhoi when the assailants struck. The sudden violence left the community in shock.
Leimakhong police arrived to secure the area and launched an official investigation. Authorities filed a case regarding the fatal shooting. Officials intend to move the body to Kangpokpi for a post-mortem examination. Police continue to search for the shooters.
