Imphal father on the run after fatal shooting of son

Imphal: Ningthoujam Samton shot his 35-year-old son, N. Kishan, dead Wednesday evening. The shooting happened around 6:50 pm near the Sports University Gate at Koutruk Awang Leikai. It was a brutal scene. Samton used his licensed double-barrel shotgun during a heated domestic argument.

Kishan was a mason and the eldest of four brothers. He leaves behind a wife, who is pregnant, and a daughter. Family members rushed him to Raj Medicity Hospital after the shooting. Doctors there pronounced him dead on arrival. His body now rests at the RIMS mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

Samton fled the area with his weapon immediately after the gunfire. He is still on the run. Local residents gathered at the suspect's home this morning to address the violence. The community reached a firm decision. Locals "resolved to ostracise him from the locality for the remainder of his life."

The Lamshang Police Station opened an investigation into the killing. They have officially registered a case and are searching for the fugitive father.
