Imphal: Manipur police and welfare officials rescued a minor girl from a suspected human trafficking operation early Thursday. The raid occurred in Keibi village within the Imphal East district. Authorities took three people into custody. A fourth suspect fled the scene and remains on the run.
Intelligence reached welfare officials late Wednesday night. They heard reports that several minors were being readied for transport out of state. Sheikh Abdul Hakim, the state Social Welfare Director, joined the mission personally. The team received the first tip at 11:00 PM.
Officials moved fast. They sought immediate clearance from state leadership to initiate the rescue. "Acting on tips from various sources, the operation was rapidly organized and concluded with the direct approval of Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh and top police officials,” Hakim stated.
A joint team handled the takedown. This group included officers from the Imphal East District Police and the local Women Police unit. Officials have kept the names of the victim and the three detainees private to protect the integrity of the investigation. Police continue to question the suspects today to uncover how far this network reaches across state lines.
