Police Arrest Suspect After Bomb Attempt at Professor's Home

Imphal: Imphal West police arrested a 35-year-old man caught trying to bomb a residence. The incident occurred Tuesday night at the home of Professor Chinglen Maisnam on Chingakham Liwa Road in Singjamei. Authorities identified the suspect as K. Rosal from Brahmapur Thangapatmapal. He had a hand grenade in his possession when police stopped him.

A Kakwa police patrol caught the suspect between 6:30 pm and 7 pm. The professor and his family were out of town during the attempt. Following the arrest, the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Imphal West ordered seven days of police custody for the accused.

A sit-in protest erupted at Chanam Purkhi Community Hall after the incident. Moirangthem Tapasini, president of the Liwa Ideal Women Association, spoke to the crowd. She called for calm and open communication. "Appealing for restraint, she urged people to engage in dialogue and seek a peaceful solution rather than resorting to threats." Tapasini defended the professor as a respected resource person and questioned why anyone would target him.
