Imphal Police Arrest KCP Militant in Extortion Crackdown

Imphal: Imphal West police caught an alleged KCP militant during a targeted search operation on September 30. Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department swooped into Leitong Maning Leikai under the Patsoi Police Station jurisdiction to make the arrest.

The suspect is 35-year-old Khundrakpam Biren Meitei. He is also known as Kethabi and Nanao. He is the son of the late Kh. Ingocha Meitei and lives in Sairemkhul Mayai Leikai. Police seized 19 demand letters from the man. Investigators linked these documents directly to the Kangleipak Communist Party People's War Group.

Officials have not released further details on the ongoing investigation. The department stated, "Further details regarding the case and subsequent legal proceedings are awaited." Legal action against Meitei continues as police process the evidence found at the scene.

In a separate operation on October 1, police picked up a 35-year-old woman, Sangomsumbam Silma, for carrying two bundles of suspected WY tablets. Officers caught her during a routine frisking session at Yaithibi Loukol along National Highway-102 in Kakching district. Silma, a resident of Urup Makha Leikai in Imphal East and daughter of the late Md Islaoddin, remains in custody while investigators look into the case.
