Guwahati: Utpal Saikia died after falling into a pond in Jhumarmur village, Nagaon district. He was a local postmaster at the Ranglu office. He headed to his pond at 8 am to fish. He never came home. Concerned family members went to look for him. They found him floating in the water.

Neighbors ran to help when they heard cries. They dragged Saikia from the pond and raced him to the Kathiatoli Block Primary Health Centre. Doctors declared him dead on arrival. His body went to Nagaon Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination. It was later returned to his home.

Locals remember Saikia for his humility and steady work habits. One resident stated, "Saikia was well regarded for his courteous behaviour towards people visiting the post office." He served his community with sincerity.

He leaves behind his wife, a 12-year-old son, and an ailing father. Members of the local Muslim community joined the funeral rites to assist his kin. The gesture highlighted the strong communal harmony in the area. Jhumarmur remains in deep mourning as residents offer condolences to his grieving family.
