Assam Police Catch Scorpio Driver After 40-Kilometer Chase

Guwahati: A Scorpio struck a child in Akashiganga on the night of September 30. The driver fled the scene immediately. Local residents chased the SUV for nearly 40 kilometers toward Nagaon. The vehicle, bearing registration number AS02 AA 0150, ignored all signals to stop. It caused significant destruction during the pursuit.

The car dragged a police naka-checking barricade and damaged property at the Doboka toll gate. Residents claimed the vehicle sustained 50 per cent damage during the frantic drive. Occupants inside the SUV allegedly threatened those following them. The dangerous driving continued until the Nonoi Police Outpost in Nagaon finally blocked the road. Officers detained two youths found inside the vehicle.

Police have launched an official investigation into the accident and the trail of damage left behind. The current status of the victim remains unknown. Regarding the chaotic pursuit, officials stated: "Police have initiated an investigation and are examining the circumstances surrounding the accident, the subsequent chase and the alleged damage caused during the incident."

Guwahati police sources confirmed the investigation into the incident, which originated in Akashiganga, is now widening to account for the property damage and the hit-and-run charge.
