Police Seize 21kg of Ganja in Imphal West Raid

Imphal: Cops busted five people in Imphal West on Saturday. They seized 21.46 kilograms of suspected ganja. The raid hit a property in Sagolband Pukhrambam Leirak after police got a tip about hidden drugs.

Officers from Lamphel and Imphal police stations led the operation. They secured a search warrant first. An Executive Magistrate watched as the team moved in. Women Police Constables joined the search. They found 18 packets of the suspected drug stuffed inside a luggage bag.

The suspects include Gaigonliu Abonmei, 37, of Tamenglong, and 39-year-old Asma Gonmei. Sonik Ningthoujam, 31, of Imphal East, Naorem Dashobanta Singh, 50, of Imphal West, and 31-year-old AS Somichan of Senapati also face charges. Police booked the group under relevant laws.

Investigators are now chasing the drug trail. "The investigation is expected to focus on tracing the source and intended destination of the suspected contraband, as well as identifying other individuals who may be linked to the alleged drug network." Officers want to know where the shipment was headed.
