Imphal: Imphal West commandos raided three homes on September 17. They arrested three suspects linked to an ongoing extortion scheme in the Singjamei Wangma area. The operation aimed to dismantle local criminal networks.
Police identified the men as 40-year-old Okram Priyokumar Singh, 44-year-old Waikhom Amarjit Singh, and 34-year-old Thongram Sunson Singh. Investigators took the suspects into custody after acting on what they described as "reliable information regarding the involvement of the three in extortion activities."
A major development surfaced during the arrests. Waikhom Amarjit Singh is currently a serving Havildar with the 1st Manipur Rifles. Officers found a 9mm pistol and a magazine loaded with four live rounds on him. Authorities continue to investigate the case as they work to clear out rackets across Imphal.

Police released additional details identifying the suspects as Okram Priyokumar Singh, alias Priyo, and Thongram Sunson Singh, alias Uttam. Both men reside in Singjamei Waikhom Leikai. Officials also clarified that the arrest of the 1st Manipur Rifles Havildar, Waikhom Amarjit Singh, involved the recovery of a service pistol rather than a standard firearm.
The operation involved a joint effort between the Imphal West district commando unit and the Manipur Police Anti-Extortion Unit. Authorities confirmed that all three suspects and the confiscated hardware have been transferred to the local police station where a formal case is now on the books.

Police released additional background on the arrested men: Okram Priyokumar Singh is the son of the late Okram Nillamani Singh, Waikhom Amarjit Singh is the son of W Nilachandra Singh, and Thongram Sunson Singh is the son of Th Bimol Singh. Waikhom Amarjit Singh also resides in Singjamei Wangma Pebiya Pandit Leikai.
In a separate operation on September 16, a combined team of Heirok Police and the 10th Battalion of the Border Security Force pulled a stash of weapons from Heirok Part-III Uyok Ching Mamang in Thoubal district. Authorities seized a double-barrelled breech-loading gun, a country-made rifle with a magazine, and 20 live rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition. Investigators are now checking if these weapons connect to militant groups or other illegal activity in the region.
