Aizawl: Home Minister K. Sapdanga wants the public to lead the charge on the Mizoram Fireworks Regulation Act, 2026. He met officials Tuesday at the Secretariat Conference Hall in Aizawl. The minister argued that education works better than strict enforcement. He told stakeholders, "Public education on the harmful effects of fireworks should receive greater attention, rather than relying solely on strict enforcement."

Chief Secretary Khilli Ram Meena and DGP Sharad Agarwal joined the session. Representatives from the Central Young Mizo Association, Aizawl Municipal Corporation, and the Mizoram Merchant Association also attended. Home Secretary Vanlalmawia presented the rules. The law restricts selling, holding, and firing explosives across the state. It creates a three-tier monitoring system with high-level, district, and local committees.

Sapdanga is leaning on the YMA to keep the state clean. He wants churches and community leaders to help spread the word. Officials are now planning to block illegal imports before Christmas. They will use media, local churches, and merchants to stop the fireworks from reaching the streets.
