Shillong: Grammy-winning gospel collective Maverick City Music will play Shillong on December 12. The show takes place at Madan Polo. The KJP Assembly’s Mission and Evangelism Department is running the event. They have teamed up with the Meghalaya government and Rocksii EMG to pull it off. This concert serves as a centerpiece for local pre-Christmas celebrations.
The Atlanta-based group holds multiple Grammy and GMA Dove Awards. Their catalog includes hit projects like Old Church Basement and Breathe. In 2022, they took the stage at the Grammy Awards with Elevation Worship. Organizers say this marked the first time in twenty years a Christian gospel group performed at the ceremony. Beyond the headliners, the event gives Meghalaya’s local musicians a stage to perform.
The concert doubles as a fundraiser. Proceeds will back KJP Assembly welfare programs, including education, healthcare, and humanitarian aid. The KJP Assembly has appealed to churches and the public, stating that "proceeds will support its community development projects."
Tickets are on sale at the Rocksii Tickets website. Fans can buy Silver tickets for Rs 1,000, Gold for Rs 2,500, or Patron’s Lounge seats for Rs 10,000. Donors who give Rs 10,000 or more will get a certificate signed by the artistes.
