Meghalaya Plans State-Backed Gospel Concerts

Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma is launching a series of state-backed gospel concerts across the Khasi and Garo Hills. The government intends to work closely with local religious institutions to coordinate these events.

The plan features two major shows. One concert will take place in the Khasi Hills with assistance from the Presbyterian Church. A second performance will hit the Garo Hills through a partnership with the Baptist Church. The government wants to elevate religious music alongside secular acts.

"We must celebrate our faith as individuals, and while we promote other forms of music, we must also promote gospel music," Sangma said. Beyond the concerts, the Chief Minister issued new directives for the Meghalaya Pavilion. Officials must play music daily at the site. Every Sunday, the pavilion will exclusively feature gospel music.
