Shillong: Sixteen-year-old Nikjagring Ch Marak just put Meghalaya on the map. The South West Garo Hills athlete locked down a bronze medal at the 2026 National Lawn Bowls Championship. It is the state's first national medal in the sport.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma credited the win to a steady push for grassroots talent and professional coaching across the region. He pointed to the technical guidance of Malaysian high-performance coach Ramble Dallan Rice-Oxley and the logistical muscle of the Meghalaya Lawn Bowling Association as the drivers behind the podium finish.

Sangma praised the breakthrough. "The achievement reflected the results of continued investment in sports, grassroots talent development and professional coaching in Meghalaya." The Chief Minister added his well wishes for the young athlete's future career.
