Aizawl: The Saikawt Village Playground in Manipur’s Churachandpur district hosted the first Mizo Integration Cultural Festival. The two-day event focused on the theme Integration Through Culture. It drew community leaders and various ethnic groups from across the region to celebrate shared heritage.

Mizoram Arts and Culture Minister C. Lalsawivunga served as chief guest. Mizoram Chief Minister’s political adviser Lalmuanpuia Punte acted as guest of honour. Local host and Churachandpur MLA LM Khaute welcomed the crowd. The Mizo Integration Council, established in 2025, organized the gathering to unite the Chin, Kuki, Mizo, Zomi, and Hmar communities.

Performers filled the stage. Dancers from various tribes performed alongside singers from both Mizoram and Churachandpur. Lalsawivunga praised the event, stating, "The festival provided an opportunity for different groups in the region to come together and build closer ties." He added that culture drives ethnic growth.

MLA LM Khaute called the event a new beginning for the Zofate, or Children of Zo People. He suggested that such cultural exchanges could secure peace and regional development. He hopes for an annual recurrence. Council president RL Haokip argued that current divisions remain artificial. He pointed to linguistic commonalities as proof of a shared identity.

Saikot MLA Paolienlal Haokip recalled a 1965 tribal conference where leaders pushed for single-administration integration. He cited the 1986 Mizoram Accord, which left Mizo-inhabited area integration on hold. Haokip now wants a formal review of those specific clauses to foster long-term unity.
