Aizawl: Officials and residents from Assam and Mizoram gathered at the Joint YMA Field in Vairengte to mend regional relations. The Inter-State Border Festival brought together cultural groups, athletes, and government leaders from Kolasib and Cachar districts. They came to promote peace. The event was co-chaired by Kolasib Additional Deputy Commissioner B. Malsawmtluangi and DRDO Project Director Lalmuanpuia.
Assam sent a massive delegation to the border town. Dholai MLA Amio Kanti Das led the group alongside Cachar Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar Gupta and Cachar Superintendent of Police Partha Protim Das. The Mizoram side featured Deputy Speaker and Kolasib MLA Lalfamkima as the chief guest. He pushed for regional unity despite administrative lines.
Lalfamkima told the crowd: "Although we are separated by administrative borders, our cooperation and peaceful coexistence must not deteriorate. We need to work together for our mutual benefit." He argued that local religious and cultural differences should never stop collaboration in trade, sports, or agriculture.
Amio Kanti Das echoed these sentiments, noting that regional cooperation helps the entire Northeast. Meanwhile, Rahul Kumar Gupta highlighted sports as a tool to bridge the gap between young people from both states. Attendees watched traditional dance routines and musical acts while athletes competed in badminton, futsal, table tennis, and volleyball matches.
The event also featured markets for local goods. Both the Mizoram State Rural Livelihoods Mission and the ATMA set up stalls to display homegrown products and support regional economic initiatives.
