Aizawl: A landslide killed a 14-year-old boy and injured four people in Vairengte early Saturday morning. Heavy rains triggered the disaster in Mizoram's Kolasib district. The site sits near the Mizoram-Assam border. Local police and volunteers pulled the boy, identified as Zodingliana, from the debris.
Kolasib Superintendent of Police Lalrinpuia Varte said the slide hit at 4.30 am on September 12. Two victims required transfer to Silchar in neighboring Assam for medical care. The other two injured remain at the Vairengte Community Health Centre. The slide flattened two houses and a separate establishment. One home was a double-storey timber structure, while the second was an Assam-type house. The site housed 17 people across three families. Officials are currently working to assess the full scale of the destruction. "The deceased was identified as Zodingliana," said the SP.
