Aizawl: Mizoram Art and Culture Minister C. Lalsawivunga opened the state museum at the New Secretariat Complex in Aizawl this Wednesday. The building serves as a hub for local history. It protects the traditions and cultural identity of the region. The minister thanked the Indian Ministry of Culture for funding the construction and the Smart City initiative for finishing the interior work.

The museum holds nine galleries and an archaeology section. It sits in the MINECO area near the Mizoram Public Service Commission office. Lalsawivunga noted that the facility acts as a bridge between past and present. He told the crowd, "a museum was not merely a place to preserve old objects but an institution that connected the past with the present and helped protect a community's way of life, traditions and cultural heritage."

Construction started on September 18, 2007. Workers finished the job on October 2, 2012. The state officially handed the building to the Art and Culture Department on July 25, 2019. Lalsawivunga wants students and young people to visit often. More than half of the current collection came from private donations. He asked residents to bring forward any historically significant items they might own to ensure they remain on public display for years to come.
