Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma pushed the state’s youth to master Hindi on Monday. He spoke at a Hindi Diwas event held at the Dawrpui Multipurpose Hall in Aizawl. The Mizoram Hindi Prachar Sabha organized the celebration to highlight the importance of the national language for jobs and federal communication. The Chief Minister made his stance clear to the crowd.
"We should learn Hindi while preserving our own culture. We should speak Hindi and enjoy Hindi songs, but without losing our identity," Lalduhoma said. He warned that abandoning Mizo roots would erode the local community. He insisted that acquiring a new language does not equate to adopting a foreign culture.
Lalduhoma pointed to his own legislative track record as evidence of his support for the language. He secured state recognition for Hindi Matric and Intermediate exams in 1988, followed by BA level credentials in 2000. These efforts aimed to open doors for locals in broader job markets.
School Education Minister Dr. Vanlalthlana joined the event as the Guest of Honour. Lalchungnunga, Vice President of the Mizoram Hindi Prachar Sabha, chaired the proceedings. Rev. R.K. Lalawmpuia conducted the devotion, while Sabha Chairman R.B. Lalmalsawma gave an address. The ceremony concluded by handing out certificates to new Hindi Ph.D. holders and traffic police officers who finished a specialized spoken Hindi course.
