Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha broke ground on a 1,437 crore project to bury power lines across Agartala. The event took place Thursday at the Bardowali Higher Secondary School Ground. Crews performed a traditional Bhumi Pujan ceremony to start the work. Three agencies will handle the job. The project wraps up in 2028.

Overhead wires will soon disappear. This plan cleans up the city and keeps the lights on during storms. Falling trees often knock out power, but underground lines stay safe. The upgrade also stops electricity theft and lowers fire risks. Engineers will use smart grid tech and a control room to track the network live. They will use Horizontal Directional Drilling to dig without blocking traffic for commuters.

Saha also started the Utility-Led Aggregation project for rooftop solar. This moves the city toward better-planned infrastructure. Saha told followers on X, "Underground cabling will help reduce power disruptions, prevent electricity theft, enhance public safety and improve the overall beautification of Agartala by replacing overhead wires." This infrastructure overhaul aims to modernize how Agartala manages its electricity.
