Agartala: Winter is on hold in Tripura. Residents face a five to seven day wait for the usual chill to arrive as a cyclonic system over the Bay of Bengal stalls the cooling trend. Temperatures currently hit 34 to 35 degrees Celsius, well above the normal 31 degrees.
India Meteorological Department scientist Partha Roy linked the heat to the distant cyclone. He stated, "such temperature rises are commonly observed when cyclonic systems or circulations develop over the Bay of Bengal."
The system will make landfall near Visakhapatnam on October 28. It will not strike Tripura directly. However, outer rain bands may trigger light, isolated showers in South Tripura, Gomati, Sepahijala, and North Tripura on October 27. Similar light rain remains possible in any district on October 28 and 29.
The IMD issued no weather warnings for the state. As the cyclonic system weakens, officials expect mercury levels to drop back toward normal ranges within the next week.
