Guwahati: All India Congress Committee leader Anil Yadav took aim at the BJP and the Election Commission of India on October 27. He blasted both groups for compromising the electoral process. Speaking at a press conference held at Rajiv Bhawan in Haflong, Yadav claimed that illegal activity persists at the ballot box. He dubbed this practice vote chori.
Yadav insisted that a billionaire and a pauper hold equal power at the polls. This equality forms the bedrock of a functioning democracy. The Congress leader argued that the current system fails to guarantee that a voter's choice is accurately reflected in final results. He warned that public trust in democratic institutions will wither if transparency remains absent.
The AICC official stated, "vote chori" continues despite every citizen having equal voting rights. He demanded a process where citizens can exercise their franchise without interference. Yadav did not offer specific evidence or cite a particular instance of theft during the briefing. The party continues to focus its criticism on the BJP and the conduct of federal election officials.
