Guwahati: The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party declared on October 27 that an Election Commission of India affidavit filed in the Supreme Court confirms the legality of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The party stated that this revision follows the existing legal framework. Every directive issued between June 2025 and May 2026 received full approval from Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar alongside Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.

The commission has not touched Form 6. Officials kept the voter registration document intact. They separated the SIR declaration form from the standard registration paperwork on the online portal starting October 21, 2026. This move ensures voters can verify previous roll data without confusion. The BJP dismissed claims that internal commissioner notes reflect instability. The party noted that internal file queries are merely deliberative inputs, not final policy. "These assertions were made by the party in its statement," the BJP noted while hitting back at Opposition parties for spreading misinformation.

The Supreme Court stepped in on October 27 to manage the legal dispute. Justices gave the Opposition petitioners ten days to file a rejoinder to the commission's counter-affidavit. The ECI insists it remains committed to impartiality throughout this process.
