Kohima: Nagaland Lok Sabha MP Supongmeren Jamir raised alarms on October 27 regarding reports of Chinese troops crossing into Arunachal Pradesh. Tensions spiked following claims that an Army jawan vanished, leaving his current status a mystery. Jamir noted that if a commander reported the soldier missing, the government must address it immediately. Officials in New Delhi currently deny that China has encroached on Indian soil.
The situation demands scrutiny. Jamir intends to force a confrontation over the issue during the next Parliamentary session. He argued that the discrepancy between military reports and government statements requires a direct response from the Centre. Any instability in Arunachal Pradesh threatens the entire Northeast, he warned. Security risks to one state quickly ripple across the borders of others. We must protect our regional interests.
Jamir proposed a shift in border strategy to bolster regional safety. He urged the government to arm village guards alongside current military units. These locals know the treacherous terrain better than anyone else. He argued that integrating these guards with the Border Security Force and other paramilitary groups would create a tighter, more effective defense. Jamir stated: "The matter had been raised with the Government of India and expressed hope that the Centre would consider giving greater importance to village guards, particularly in the border areas of the Northeast."
