NNPGs Ultimatum: NSCN/FRGN Must Disband Following Controversial Mandates

Kohima: The Neokpao-led Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPGs) issued a two-week ultimatum for the NSCN/FRGN to disband. Failure to comply will result in what the group described as dire consequences. The demand follows an October 23 statement from the FRGN, which the WC blasted as immature and shortsighted. The WC further demanded the FRGN withdraw its statement and issue an unqualified apology to the Naga public and non-Naga entrepreneurs.

The FRGN directive attempted to mandate Sunday shop closures, a total alcohol ban, and the phased shutdown of businesses owned by non-locals within 30 days. It also included declarations against drug peddling and prostitution. The WC accused the FRGN of using the Naga political issue to enrich themselves through terror and harassment. The WC stated, "The WC shall not forebear their presence or their nefarious activities anywhere in Naga inhabited areas."

Regional business organizations, including the Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Chümoukedima Chamber of Commerce and Trade Association, have aligned against the FRGN mandates. These groups argue that promoting local entrepreneurship must not violate the lawful rights of other business communities. They called for the state government to uphold constitutional governance and ensure the safety of traders.

N Kitovi Zhimomi, Convener of the WC, NNPGs, argued that these threats jeopardize the state’s economic future and contradict established agreements like the Framework Agreement. He urged the state administration to intervene immediately. District officials have confirmed they will ignore the FRGN, stating they will act only according to existing state law. Local police and the district administration are coordinating to maintain order, urging any citizens facing intimidation or extortion to report to the nearest police station.
