Polo Hotels Group Opens First Kohima Property

Kohima: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav opened the new Polo Hotel in Kohima on October 24. Located near Aradurah Hill, the site features 56 rooms. It marks the first chain property for the Polo Hotels Group in the state. The hotel overlooks the city and valley from a glass-house lobby.

Yadav pushed for deeper local integration. He wants the hotel to work with regional farmers, artisans, and food producers. "Tourism is not merely about attracting visitors; it is about creating meaningful experiences while ensuring that local communities benefit from the opportunities tourism generates," the Governor said. He believes the facility will boost the state's economic prospects and help accommodate guests for the annual Hornbill Festival.

Design elements pull from Naga building traditions. The Mithun block roof mimics traditional morungs. Rooms showcase local textiles and tribal art. Guests can dine at Tring Tring, a 1990s-themed restaurant serving a seven-course Naga menu alongside Oriental, Western, and Indian dishes. Amenities include an infinity pool.

The property facilitates regional tourism. Staff arrange trips to Khonoma village, the Dzükou Valley, and various WWII heritage sites. Key figures at the opening included Tourism Minister Temjen Imna Along, Commissioner and Secretary for Tourism Kovi Meyase, and Polo Hotels Group leadership Deval and Kishan Tibrewalla.

Polo Hotels Group started in Shillong in 1991. Headquartered in Kolkata, the company manages multiple properties across the region. Their portfolio includes sites in Shillong, Cherrapunji, Agartala, and Kolkata. They also run brands like Dylan’s Café and ML05 CAFÉ.
