Kohima: The Nagaland Association of Tour Operators began a five-day training push on August 3 at the Red Cross Conference Hall in Kohima. The program runs through August 7. It gathers participants from across the state to sharpen the local tourism workforce.
Vimeto Vakha, president of the Nagaland Tourism Association, chaired the opening session. Akhale V. Khamo offered the invocation. NATO president Kejaroko Pieru stated that the state currently lacks enough skilled professionals to handle the rising number of visitors. He noted, "Nagaland must be prepared with competent tour guides to provide quality visitor experiences."
Veyielo Doulo, the Director of Tourism, attended the event. He pushed the trainees to learn practical skills that could turn the sector into a major source of local jobs. NATO general secretary Veluzo Tetseo outlined the schedule for the remaining days.
The course blends classroom work with field trips. Kholie Dolf from the St. John Ambulance Association is leading the certified first aid training. Other sessions cover tourism laws, guiding etiquette, wildlife tourism, and community-based initiatives. Trainees will visit Kohima, Khonoma, and Dzuleke to learn about destination interpretation and heritage.
