Dimapur Hosts HIV and Addiction Awareness Drive

Kohima: Nagaland Apex Handloom Handicraft and Textile Export Marketing Association teamed up with the Dimapur District Administration, Municipal Council, and the Chief Medical Officer to run an awareness drive. The event took place Tuesday at the Lion’s Club in Midland, Dimapur. It focused on HIV, AIDS, and drug de-addiction.

The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited bankrolled the session through its social responsibility fund. Manish Kumar, the corporation’s office in charge in Dimapur, spoke to the gathered students. He reminded them that their daily choices ripple outward to affect their families and local neighborhoods. Kumar pushed for an end to social stigma against the sick. "With correct information, responsible behaviour, timely testing and timely treatment, HIV can be managed effectively," he said.

The program highlighted the central government’s Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan strategy. This plan covers prevention, treatment, and recovery services. Experts warned students to ignore social media rumors and instead talk to doctors. The session featured technical talks from Orenthung Ngullie of the District Hospital and Dr. Tahito Vishepu, an officer at the hospital’s opioid substitution therapy center. Others also spoke up. Testimonies from a recovered drug user and a person living with HIV added a human element to the lectures.

Sentilemla Lemtur and Ayula Longkumer chaired the event. Imtimenba Jamir, an associate pastor at DABA, provided the invocation. Attendees received IEC materials, and the hospital set up mobile testing services on-site to help those seeking answers.
